I have read the series Mr Aaronovitch has created a fantastic view of the mystical and magical underbelly of London. But with teeth!! Peter Grant, a probationary police constable, unwittingly interviews a ghost at a murder scene. This brings him to the notice of Inspector Nightingale who enrols Grant into a covert department which polices the ethereal forces that run London. Throughout the book Grant comes to realise their are many Gods and Goddesses of the rivers and tributaries of the city that are real. Grant is a completely believable character whos own scepticism is always being questions by the events he experiences through the story. I have read the series over the past few years and am currently re-reading in preparation to the latest offering I recently purchased. The books are like a believable Harry Potter for adults. The series is as follows; Rivers of London, Moon over Soho, Broken Homes, Whispers Underground, Foxglove Summer, The Hanging Tree and The Furthest Station. |

My first offering is a brilliant piece of cinema. Its from Korea and is subtitled, something which I know a lot of people get turned off by. Don't let this put you off. The cinematography is visually stunning. The characters are solid and diverse, likeable, realistic and diverse.
The story itself is simple but really effective. A man, company executive type, is taking his young daughter from Seoul to Busan to see her mother. There is rioting and violence literally as they leave the station. We're talking fast zombies created by some sort of chemical spill. there is nothing stereotypical about the situations or characters. It is also very character led, with good and bad and everybody in between. The ending was by far the most moving finale to a zombie movie I have ever seen. It actually puts its closest rival (World War Z) to shame. I would say if you are and avid zombie fan watch this the first chance you get. |
